Taboo

A few weeks ago we played taboo in class. This was probably my favorite class because it was so fun! I didn't go up in front of the class because I didn't want to get in front of everyone, and I probably wouldn't be very good at it and I didn't want my team to lose points. I think it was an awesome way for us to be competitive and try to earn extra points for our essay. I wish we could do it again!

Today in class

Today in class we wrote essays about what we think our grade should be. We had to explain why we gave ourselves that grade. I said that I thought I earned a 90 because I came to class, but I didn't really speak out loud. I spoke more when we were in small groups. I was also late to class (like all the time). Even though I didn't speak out loud when we were doing things as a class, I still was attentive and knew what everyone else was talking about.

We Real Cool

This poem was really short and to the point. I think that it just talks about this person and what they did during their life. Each line of the poem ends with "We" except for the last line. It was kind of confusing on some of the words trying to figure out what they were talking about, but overall it was pretty good!

Poems yay!

Although I really hate writing poems because I can never think of anything to write, I really enjoy reading them. Poetry is different than other writing because you basically can do it however you want. You can write certain kinds of poems, or you can just free write. Also, you can have a rhyme scheme, or you don't have to. I really enjoyed reading the poems this semester and talking about them in class to see what everyone else thought about them. The dog poems were especially interesting because it showed that not all poems have to be so serious... like sometimes people just write about random things; like dogs.

Peer Reviews

I think that the peer review days really helped out a lot. It helped to get opinions from my peers on all of my papers before actually turning it in for a grade. It also helps to get other people to read my paper before I turn it in because they might catch some mistakes that I didn't. We took turns reading our papers out loud while our group members took notes. Then, I let someone else read my paper themselves so they could pick out any spelling errors I might have missed. The peer review days were really helpful.

The Glass Menagerie

I thought that the glass Menagerie was one of my favorite stories. It was about a girl named Laura and how her mother tried to set her up with one of her brother's co-workers. Laura is a very shy girl and was socially awkward. She had even went to class once and threw up because she was no nervous and  ended up being so embarrassed that she did not want to go back. The man that Laura's mother tried to set her up with ended up being engaged to be married. This realization caused Laura and her mom much embarassment. I think that eventually Laura will find someone if she stops being so shy.

Finally 18!

So, my 18th birthday was last week on the 11th. Thinking about it, I really don't feel that old at all, and actually I feel as if I could still pass for 13. But looking back on the past year, I feel like I have learned a lot. I feel like I have grown up a lot. A year ago I was still in high school, had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and didn't have a job. Now, all of that has completely changed! It's crazy to think about how much has happened in just a year's time. In the past year I've made some awesome friends, and also lost some. Built some bridges, tore some down. Met some people who really changed my life. Went on some really great dates. Went on some really awkward dates. Ate some good food. Experienced really hot weather as well as really cold weather. Saw 3 different country music stars in concert. Got really depressed because Hostess went out of business and I couldn't eat mini muffins for breakfast anymore. Bought some sunglasses. Lost them. Bought some more. Got a job. Met some really great local customers. Met some really rude out-of-state customers. Saw some good movies. Saw some bad ones. Went to my senior homecoming dance wearing some pretty awesome shoes. Took some things for granted and regretted it. Watched people laugh. Watched people cry. Laughed. Cried. Became addicted to coffee and the Ellen Degeneres show. Tried some new foods that I never thought I would try. Realized that good things may come to those who wait, but the longer you wait for something the more you might realize you don't really need it. Gave someone my heart. Got it broken. Got over it... almost. Went some places I've never been before. Gave certain people really awesome gifts. Recieved some really awesome gifts. Became closer with some friends, and drifted apart from others. Decided that I don't need anyone in my life that doesn't need me. Also decided not to stress over the small things because in 10 years none of it will matter. So many things I've done and learned in the past year, I could probably keep going. But I'm finally a legal adult now, (not that I feel any different), and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for me!  

Adventuring in Carytown

The day that I visited the Holocaust museum, I also went adventuring in Carytown. I had never been before, and I wanted to go and see what it was like and walk around and go inside all the little shops they have. I went in Carytown Cupcakes (so good) and got two of the best cupcakes EVER! They were awesome. After that my friend and I went into alot of the stores. We had the hardest time crossing the street, because where we live we don't have to cross at a crosswalk or even wait for cars to stop (because there are none) it was funny. It was also very obvious that her and I did not belong in the city!

Holocaust Museum

The other day I had to visit the  Holocaust museum for another class that I'm taking. It was a very good experience, and I think everyone should go to the museum at some point. When you first get there, they give you a sticker to wear. You then go into a room and watch a video about the Holocaust, told by survivors. After that you go on a self-guided tour around the museum. They have all kinds of displays that show they people and everything. I went inside a room that was like a gas chamber, and also crawled through a tunnel which was used for hiding. There's even a place set up that shows all of the Holocaust survivors that have made their way to Richmond. Like I said, I think that it is a very good experience and everyone should go!
